At Orchid, we believe that a home and its surroundings are in conversation with each other, brought to life by the feeling of arriving somewhere made just for you.

Guided by that ethos, we build quality, architecturally designed homes in the Northern Beaches and Greater Sydney area that belong to the natural coastal and lived environments they are part of. Working with Orchid is an assurance of an open, enjoyable, collaborative exchange, a joint exploration that respects ideas, transparency, process and budget.

Our Approach

Every project is shaped by place as much as by brief, by the landscape around it as much as the life within it. We work closely with architects, designers, craftspeople and clients who share that sensibility, to create beautiful homes that endure, recognised and defined by their quality.

We specialise in:

  • Detailed architectural construction
  • Luxury new homes
  • Renovations and renewals
  • Solutions-focused craftsmanship

Our Approach

Our Projects

01Johnson

  • Hampton’s style
  • Barama stone entry
  • Outdoor living pavillion and pool

A striking contemporary interpretation of Hamptons design, this home combines traditional craftsmanship with a relaxed contemporary spirit. From the first look, the character is unmistakable: the blend of crisp pine weatherboard and Barama stone cladding, paired with deep eaves and exposed rafters, gives the house a classic feel. Inside, the rhythm of warm herringbone timber floors sets a welcoming tone that flows through every room.

02Marlborough

  • Double gable
  • Floating staircase
  • Cathedral ceilings
  • Natural rimber cladding

Nestled on a sloping Freshwater site, this transformative renovation seamlessly blends modern design elements with the charm of the original structure. The first-floor addition has an impressive Scandinavian-inspired double-gable roof, clad in a sleek, black material that pays homage to the ancient artistry of Shou Sugi Ban charred timber.

03Outlook

  • Mid-century aesthetic
  • Soft skylit interior
  • Iconic balcony elevating coastal views

This renovation and extension of a mid-century brick-veneer house utterly transforms the original, both inside and out. By removing a load-bearing wall and concealing structural steel within the roof space, a new open-plan layout has been created offering new sightlines, enhanced natural lighting and extensive upper-level ocean views. At the same time, a reconfigured staircase improves circulation between the levels and the stair void forms an architectural focal point within the living space.

04Harmony

  • Curved architectural detail
  • Handmade Krause brick
  • Mosaic courtyard pool

The home achieves a gentle harmony between outside and in, partly through a repetition of premium natural materials, such as handmade Krause bricks and spotted gum timber. At the same time, the softly rounded shape of the upper façade is echoed inside in the fluid line of the kitchen’s internal wall and the curved form of its beautiful island bench. With its pink terrazzo countertop and travertine tiled cladding, this is a centrepiece that invites family and friends together to gather round.

05Jamieson

  • Contemporary box-style architecture
  • Central courtyard
  • Light-filled
  • Clerestory roof

Designed to make the most of internal space, this modern rectilinear home is filled with light and makes a strong connection with the outdoors. At the street front, the organic warmth of a timber-look garage door softens the clean contemporary lines, while deep window hoods act to shield from the summer sun. Upon entry, the home opens up to a beautiful open-riser oak staircase beneath high clerestory glazing that draws natural light deep into the home and the central courtyard.

06Argyle

  • Classic coastal weatherboard
  • Soaring ceilings
  • Stunning skylit void
  • Oak entrance

The coast has a particular way of asking a house to belong to it. Argyle answers that question from the street. Weatherboard cladding, sandstone wainscoting, the quiet geometry of exposed rafters and oversized posts: craftsmanship that does not announce itself. Inside, light oak herringbone floors paired with soaring 3-metre ceilings create a spacious, sophisticated feel.

07Iluka

  • Dynamic elevations
  • Striking black and white facade
  • Outdoor entertaining

“Iluka Palms” stands as a fine example of coastal poise, where the relaxed spirit of Manly meets the refined grace of Hamptons style. Positioned thoughtfully on its unique triangular site, the home provides a sense of space and ease that belies its compact footprint. The striking black and white façade makes a bold first impression, leading into interiors featuring the organic warmth of blackbutt flooring, the textured rhythms of V-joint detailing, and feature ceilings that allow the rooms to breathe.

“It wasn’t just a building experience, it was a bonding experience. Every step of the way, they were collaborative, they understood what we were talking about and the timelines were always really reasonable, the pricing was really reasonable. They’re very generous with their time and with their workers.”
